The rumors are true, Live Nation has purchased half of Insomniac reportedly for $50 Million. A lot of you may think this is a bad thing but its better than SFX purchasing Insomniac.
It seems that Live Nation beat out Robert Sillermanʼs SFX Entertainment and is very close to finalizing a business deal that will consolidate 50% stake of Insomniac Events for $50 million. Looks like Pasqualle Rotella is not going to have a problem taking care of his baby mama and new born daughter. Prepare yourself GDE Fam, for the ultimate EDM arms race between SFX, the oneʼs bringing over the North American debut of Tomorrowworld and Q-Dance, and Live Nation. It is has been said by “people familiar with the matter” that SFX Entertainment, who are also currently scrambling their resources and capitalize on their $1 billion investment for their EDM empire, offered $100 million for the entire Insomniac entity.
This transaction seems to come at a perfect time for Insomniac Eventsʼ CEO Pasqualle Rotella, who is still currently facing indictments for bribery and other charges back when the Electric Daisy Carnival was still hosted at the Los Angeles Coliseum and Sports Arena, after making illicit payments to stadium management. Both have pleaded not guilty to the charges, and despite the ʻbad repʼ of the current rave scene, Rotella has created something more than just the brand name of Insomniac, but an experience that is truly one that represents the music of our generation, although critics would object due to dance musics repetitive chords and played out hits. At last years EDM conference in Las Vegas, Rotella was quoted for no longer having the desire to be a ticket sales man any longer, and who can blame him. He lives for the music and experience-creating now.
The Electric Daisy Carnival has spread its roots to Las Vegas, Puerto Rico, New York, Colorado, Texas, and itʼs other promoted events Electric Forest, Beyond Wonderland, Nocturnal Wonderland, Audiotistic, and other events have sold billions of dollars in ticket sales that have also sold out in record time. Live Nation also owns subsidiary ticket sale company, TicketMaster, so be wary of the enormous service fees that may soon be in Insomniac Eventʼs near future. Hate it or Love it, American capitalism has finally tapped into the mother of all raves in North America (Insomniac Events) and Europe (ID&T & SFX), with no signs of slowing down. We as party people, ravers, clubbers, hipster, bros, festival lovers, and freaks can only stand and watch as the production values get bigger and more state-of-the-art then ever before, but maybe at the cost of our wallets.
This type of music isn’t understood by everyone. To some people, EDM is just “techno” music, loud noise, or what everyone is into now-a-days. But to the rest of the true EDM fanatics it’s something much more profound than that. For us, it’s a spiritual thing; it’s a body thing; it’s a soul thing. It’s something we hold so close to our hearts. For us, it’s a way of life.
EDM IS FREEDOM. It’s a world of its own. It’s not about the color of your skin, your orientation, or where you’ve came from. We have the freedom to live in the moment in unison with thousands of beautiful people who all share same love for this music. We have the freedom to express ourselves however we please without the existence of judgement. All you have is love, passion, inspiration, & sincerity. They are all combined to create life changing memories that will never be forgotten. Some things in life can be easily forgotten, but the feeling I get when my favorite artist drops my favorite tracks is something I will never forget. There’s nothing more gratifying than being with your loved ones at an event & indulging in the same music you so passionately love. The music, the culture, the scene, the good vibes, the experience, & the memories created are unlike anything in this world. EDM brings people together like no other music can. & in those moments, we are united as one, we are filled with so much love, we are free.
MUSIC IS LOVE. It’s that feeling I get when the music speaks to me. How deeply uplifted my heart & soul feels. It’s that feeling when the bass enters my ears & my skin tingles with goosebumps as it travels down my spine. The synths waves have me swaying side to side as I’m dancing so freely. The music carries me on a journey where I’m able to escape to the highest plateau of ecstasy. Where I become so sedated in a state of bliss. & with every strike of the piano keys, synths, drum patterns, & vocals an artists uses, it pulls me deeper. I can feel the continuous waves of euphoria being released in me. It’s that euphoria that fills me, completes me, & get me so lifted off the ground. It’s a feeling of belonging, a feeling of peace, a feeling that surges through my entire body as it electrifies my soul. & in those moments, it gives true meaning to feeling alive & free.
“Music is a total constant. That’s why we have such a strong visceral connection to it, you know? Because a song can take you back instantly to a moment, or a place, or even a person. No matter what else has changed in your or the world, that one song stays the same, just like that moment.”
